NOLA

Our 3 day trip to New Orleans that we planned, turned into a 2 day trip when i received my work schedule, then into a 1 day trip when i received Layne's baseball schedule. But o well that's how things work around the Brown house. We woke up really early so we could be in Nola and parked by the time the insectitarium opened.  A little FYI for those of you that have never been to the insectitarium, this is a federal building, and you must pass through a metal detector to enter.  I thought nothing about this. I have nothing to hide.  As we get closer to the front of the line Layne leans down and whispers in my ear, "hey mom, I have my pocket knife." What? Why?  So outside to the streets of Nola he goes to hide his knife. Then all the way through the line behind the 2 greyhounds of school field trips that had just arrived.  Ha.... leave it to my redneck child to have a pocket knife.  Well once he FINALLY made it back to us, we had a great time looking at all the bugs. Everything from termites to black widow spiders. Very educational. Funniest part was when Layne picked up this "old timey" phone to listen to the sounds of termites, he handed it to John-Rivers, then JR handed it to Ramsey. After she listened, she looked at the phone, and then she looked at the place to hang it up. She did this for a couple of minutes with a very puzzled look on her face.  Finally she said, I don't know how this thing works. It suddenly hit me that she has never seen a phone that hangs on the wall with a cord. This is a sign I'm getting old.  After we left the insects, we proceeded to our favorite place, The french market.  We stopped to watch Magic acts, Layne even got to participate in one. We watched the mime, and the artist. Shopped for useless things like mask and boas. Worth every penny. We ate at margaritaville and slowly made our way back to the jeep, SLOWLY. It was a fun filled ten hour adventure on the streets of the Big Easy!

Faith like a child

On our way to dancing today Ramsey brought up the subject of tornadoes. We discussed how we would get in the hallway and protect our heads with pillows and blankets, etc... And i said all that's left to do is pray for protection.  Ramsey promptly replied, "we ask God to put His hand over us, cus ain't nothin gettin thru Him." This made my heart smile.
