HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Today marks the anniversary of the day i started my journey into parenthood.  14 years ago today i was a scared 18 year old kid laying in a hospital bed holding this perfect baby boy. a perfect baby boy that was completely dependent on me......WHAT.....seriously a very odd, very proud, very terrifying idea. but he was mine. Layne and i have done a lot of growing up together. let's face it, every ones first child is raised by the trial and error method. i just hope and pray that i haven't made too many errors that will scar him for life. he has truly been a blessing from God and i am so thankful that i was chosen to be his mom. bigger than me now but always my baby. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAYNE BROWN!!!!!!

Sale of Champions

a little back ground here for those of you that don't know what a sale of champions is.  we live on a farm, and raise beef cattle. its a very small production, but we love it.  my oldest child shows these cattle in 4-H and FFA(future farmers of America). he attends several shows a year were youth from all over MS gather and complete with their animals in several different categories.  this is our first year to own and show a steer.  when you have a steer it can only be shown till it is a certain age. then it has to be sold for slaughter(it is the way of the farm and being a steer it is of no use to us anymore) i know this sounds awful, but its just part of farm life. Layne understood this from day one, after all the steers name is deepfreeze. John-Rivers and Ramsey on the other hand consider this animal as a 1300 pound pet and don't understand why he has to sold. so on the way to the sale it was a sad ride. they cried and got it all out of their system( i hope). by the time all the buyers showed up to support our future farmers the babies had forgotten why we were there.  Ramsey groomed deepfreeze just like she was getting him ready for a show, and when the auctioneer started she was amazed.
standing up in her chair with her pink cowboy hat on taking in all that was going on. at the end of the sale we came out very well. deepfreeze came home with us for now until after the Dixie national. he will then go to his new home and i will have to deal with the tears all over again.

ART ART ART

My 2 youngest children attended FPK in Brookhaven throughout their kindergarten years. Ramsey of coarse is still there. one of my favorite things about this school is their emphasis on art. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the art projects that my babies bring home in their bags. its always a pleasant surprise when i get things made with their hand prints and various Christmas ornaments to hang on my tree. truly treasures that i will enjoy for a long time to come. thanks to all the wonderful teachers and kinder friends that make these gifts possible.

HUNTING ADVENTURES

several days ago Layne shot an 8 point. he and Ben tracked it for hours. when they did find it, they jumped it up and had to track it again. hours and hours with no luck. the next morning they searched again with no luck then either.  for those of you that have men in your family that hunt you know that men are hard to live with when their hunting doesnt go as planned.  it is no different for 14 year old boys. but luckly and thank the Lord for answering my prayers, he redemed himself on new years eve by killing a very large doe.  it wasnt a buck, but it sure helped his feeling and his mood. CONGRATS to my big man of the house for bringing home the meat.  deer steaks is in order for a celebration supper.  and a huge thanks to Ben Ray for taking the time to hunt with him.
